Counseling Offices Offer Students a Variety of Support

If you’ve ever had to go to the counseling department with an issue, you’ve probably met Mr. Eller. Whether it was a schedule conflict or problems away from school, he is a great person to talk to.

This is Mr. Eller’s fifth year working at Central, and he has loved every year. “I truly love our counseling department and am very blessed to be working with other people who care and are passionate about helping students like Mr. DiRenzo, Mr. Donahue, Mrs. Gordon, and Dr. Krushinski.,” he said. “By far, it’s the best counseling department I’ve worked in.” Mr. Eller attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning his bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Then, he earned his Master’s in Education with a certification in School Counseling (K-12). He is also a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a national certified counselor (NCC), of which allow him to work in a private practice setting with a very diverse population.

When asked why he chose to be a counselor, Mr. Eller responded, “Growing up I experienced some difficult circumstances in my life so I always knew that I wanted to help others get through tough times and make a difference in people’s lives. I absolutely love my job and everything about it. I’m so happy with the profession I chose.” The most rewarding part of his job is when current or former students come to him and show gratitude for his guidance and help. One thing that you may not know about Mr. Eller is that he also has interest in hockey; he has been coaching the junior varsity hockey team for four years and he also plays.

“It (hockey) has taught me very important values such as teamwork, discipline and respect,” he stated. “I’ve always pictured myself being a coach one day, and it has been a wonderful and rewarding experience for me thus far.” When he plays, Mr. Eller competes in the adult league at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena in New Kensington.

Next time you have a conflict of any kind don’t be shy to stop into the guidance department and check out their newly renovated space.
