Morning News You Can Count On: A New VNN

When you awaken each morning and take in your first conscious breath, what it it that you think about? What is it that gives you the drive to get up and begin the day? It could be any of many things––a warm breakfast, a tranquil bus ride, an after school activity––but unfortunately, all of these things are now merely vying for second place, because from here on out, look no further than the vastly reformed Viking News Network to brighten your morning and provide you all necessary to start your day off right.

The morning crew for the Viking News Network

The Viking News Network has, in the past, been an occasional target for mockery from this Central Catholic student body, and the 2018-19 news team has endeavored to alter this trend. I am a member myself, so you know my sentiment to be strictly fact based and unbiased. Here it goes:

This year’s team is comprised of some of the finest young men you will find, all sporting only slightly-tarnished discipline histories, exceptionally warm smiles, and a remarkable devotion to bringing to Central Catholic the day’s news. Amidst use of equipment that is the worst at best and the loss of our previous moderator, Mr. John Rende ’10, the beginning of the broadcasting season was one of great adversity, calling into question our character and abilities in front of and behind the camera. But all of these obstacles stood no chance in the face of this year’s news team. Central’s Director of Communications, Ms. Rovesti, has replaced Mr. Rende and has learned the ropes of the job seamlessly, employing her power justly and methodically, and so giving way to an unprecedented efficiency in the green room. With said efficiency on our side, we have planned to institute a plethora of new segments to broaden our broadcasting horizons.

On Mondays, Zeke Stuart brings you Six in Sixty, six beautifully fascinating facts from the preceding weekend, all in sixty seconds.

Wednesdays will consist of a weather report from Nate Matthews, detailing the day’s forecast with unsurpassed enthusiasm and moderate reliability.

And on Fridays, we have Friday Fun Facts, with more random and impertinent nuggets of information to take home to the dinner table.

Additionally, there will be other spontaneously aired segments that will serve as happy surprises for our viewers, such as Homeroom Hangouts, where we sit down with teachers to discuss various topics, or Live from Fifth Ave., where we broadcast, well, live from Fifth Ave. There is no set time for these segments to air, so Central Catholic must stay on its toes, for, if you blink, you may just miss a life-changing product of the VNN’s genius.

One way to stay in the loop is to follow the Viking News Network on Twitter @cchsvnn. Handled with care by C.J. Simione, you’ll never miss a beat. On this account, we name our song of the week and make all notable announcements regarding your holy grail of information. It is more a than worthwhile follow and one you will improbably regret.

So that covers all of the basics of the ceaselessly boundary-pushing VNN. There is nowhere to go for this group but up, and we look forward to this ascent alongside our committed viewers. We have so much planned and so many ideas that are bound to shake the very perception of all you may think you know to be true of the Viking News Network. And should all of these great and less than likely attainable plans and pronouncements bear fruit, you’ll be looking at a year for the VNN that is better than bad.
