The Red Door program feeds Pittsburgh’s hungry and homeless every day except for Sunday, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the corner of Stanwix Street and the Boulevard of the Allies. Before sending freshmen homerooms on this service opportunity, myself and other members of the Lasallian Executive Board participated in this impactful experience. After a mass celebrated at St. Mary of Mercy Church, myself and other members of the Lasallian Executive Board got to work. We helped to prepare various lunches and a warm meal for people, not stopping until everyone was satisfied. The thought that the meal we prepared might be the only meal they eat for the day kept us motivated. Freshmen and others thinking about volunteering, remember this and have an open mind; this opportunity to give back to those less fortunate is rooted in Lasallian values Central Catholic was built upon.
