Black Student Union Update

Toward the end of my sophomore year Mr. Donahue wanted me to get involved in school with joining clubs; he really wanted me to run for student council. I just blew it off but one day he asked me, “If you can start a club right now what will it be?” I responded that I will start a Black Student Union (BSU). I know that I just didn’t want to have this club at Central but I wanted Oakland Catholic to be apart of it as well. I asked Jenell Younger to help and she joined me and we started working. From May of my sophomore year to November of my junior year, we have been working on proposals and ideas on how the club will run. I wanted to start the BSU to bring diversity to the school and awareness of African-Americans struggles. Now the BSU has a board consisting of Vice-President and Central Catholic School Promoter Jalen Cruz,  Jenell Younger, president of Oakland, Liza Wilson, Vice President of Oakland, Nataya Richardson the school promoter of Oakland, and Madi Dalton, secretary. There is a misconception that I started this club to create division within the school, but I did it for the exact opposite. The club is not only for African-Americans anyone can join. I am thankful for Brother Bob, Mr. Macurak, Mr. Donahue, and everyone else that believes in me and supports the BSU. I will continue to work to bring unity, love, and knowledge within Central and Oakland Catholic with the BSU. All of our meeting times and locations will be announced and if anyone is interested in joining you can contact any of the board members, Jalen Cruz, or myself.
