The Wright Stuff

Charles “Charlie” Wright is a senior at Central Catholic High school, born and raised in the West End portion of Pittsburgh know as Sheradan. He is the eldest son to Charles and Kelsey Wright and older brother to Logan. Charlie has dedicated himself to the sport of boxing since the age of 14. In just over three years Charlie has accomplished many great things. He has won three different boxing titles, the juniors, silver, and golden in three different weight divisions. Charlie favorite memory is winning the Billy Conn Award for the best boxer of the night at the Donnybrook event. Charlie made it to the regionals in Washington D.C last year and is currently captain of the Pittsburgh boxing team. Several of his awards are in Central’s display cases on the first floor.

After graduation, Charlie and his family will be relocating to Florida. He has been accepted to attend the University of South Florida. At this time he has not declared a major. Charlie states that the University does not currently have a boxing team but he hopes to be successful in starting one. He plans to keep boxing in all four years of college. If school doesn’t work out for him, he will focus on turning professional. For the rest of his life, Charlie will be working hard and becoming the best boxer of his generation and for ones to come.

Charlie’s passion for boxing is unbelievable; he wants to open gyms and train kids their highest potential. He has courage to get involved with the sport. Fellow senior and friend Even Billings started to box just over a year ago. Charlie has inspired so many people over the years since he started boxing. He has showed his father that he can not only defend himself in a fight, but to show him that he is man. He’s been a great role model for his brother who looks to him every and hopes to learn from Charlie. Charlie wants best for him and what he can do to help him community.
Charlie has proven that he is ready to start a new chapter in his life with boxing. Charlie credits Central Catholic for giving him the foundation and support to become successful in his boxing endeavors. He appreciates the culture of brotherhood and says it will carry him throughout his life. Two teachers he will remember most fondly are Mr.Walker and Mr. O’Connor. .
