Central Catholic prides itself on being a college focused high school, but Editor-in-Chief David Collins ponder the question if this “rat race” is worth it?

With the of the Opening Mass on September 11th came the official installation of the Student Council into their leadership roles for the 2017-18 school year. This group is composed of fifteen students, headlined by president Michael Gemmell and vice-president Troy Fisher. As a member myself, I can personally warrant the fact that we as a group have big plans for the upcoming school year. Behind the leadership of Gemmell and Fisher, and armed with the overall excellence of Pearse Walsh, we intend to make 2017-18 and unforgettable year.

The student council is in charge of planning and organizing all of the school-wide events throughout the entirety of the school year, and we are already off to a fantastic start. September 23rd brought forth the yearly annual Freshman Mixer. Accompanied by DJ Jack Wiggins, the Student Council fielded over 244 freshman from both Oakland and Central Catholic. Never before had the Central Catholic parking lot been so electrified. Pizza, music and dancing made for a great night and a phenomenal way to begin the year.

The student council is evidently focused on molding fresh, new ideas, but it is also a responsibility of ours to improve upon the traditional events that have been in place for years. Among these are the monthly Wednesday carnivals on the quad. It is no secret that said carnivals fell short of anticipation last year. We recognize this and plan, not only to get carnivals back to what they once were, but to exceed all imaginable expectation and make the carnivals of your 2017-18 school year the most magnificent carnivals in the history of the universe. Stay tuned!

To conclude, we, your 2017-18 Student Council aspire to make this school year the greatest year of you lives. We have a spectacular slate of events and functions to keep the student body loose and on your toes. There will be improved carnivals and a better and more plentiful collection of events that accommodate the interests and passions of everyone. Expect more surprises to come.
