One Down, One to Go

As The Masque finished their three-day run of White Christmas on Saturday, November 9th, it truly was a success! The audience seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show, laughing and singing along with the actors all the way to the North Pole.

Three exceptional characters who stood out in this performance were Maddie Phillips OC ’20 as Martha, Galen Lovejoy ’20 as Mike, and Blake Neiderlander ’20 as Ezekiel. Though they all were comedic roles, each actor and actress played their parts adding in their own twist. Maddie stole the show with her song “Let Me Sing and I’m Happy,” which had the audience “tapping their feet” from start to finish. Galen gave the audience a good laugh as he strictly directed “a Broadway extravaganza in three days!” Blake truly showed how to make the most of a smaller role, making a presence with every line.

While these characters made their mark with their respective performances, each and every actor and actress played their parts to the fullest, leading to yet another wonderful Masque performance.

The Masque’s performance of White Christmas

On Sunday, November 10th, The Masque announced that their spring musical would be “The Drowsy Chaperone!” As The Masque performed this same show in 2014, it was an interesting choice. This “comedy within a musical” follows the Man in Chair taking the audience through his favorite musical – The Drowsy Chaperone – comedically commenting on the cast as the show is performed in his living room!

As auditions have already passed, only fourteen males auditioned. The number of males has declined over the past couple of years, instilling a fear over the future of the program depending on what the statistics will show over the next year or two. That being said, The Masque is looking for any student from Central Catholic who enjoys singing, dancing, acting, or any of the three. Zachary Quinto (the second most famous alumni, behind Dan Marino, of course) performed in The Masque from 1991-1995, winning a Gene Kelly for Best Supporting Actor in 1994. Current students involved in The Masque strongly encourage anyone to join, regardless of their theatrical background. Performing in one show is an experience in itself.

The Drowsy Chaperone will run from March 26-28, 2020.
