Benefits of Standard Time

Cathedral of Learning

“Throughout the year, standard time will be healthier than daylight saving time in terms of sleep, cardiac function, weight, cancer risk and alcohol and tobacco consumption, to name a few examples,” says Professor Erik Herzog. More recently the argument has arisen over the dangers of daylight and there is substantial scientific evidence to back the claims. Light is important for human life.

The brain and body are set to function on a rhythmic schedule, and tampering or altering with that can have negative consequences. Humans need outdoor lighting from the sun, and losing an hour of natural light affects the natural schedule we need for a healthy lifestyle. Our body’s clocks follow the same pattern as the sun

According to a study by leading professors, “The first days after the sudden switch to DST inspires cause acute effects including shorter sleep duration, worse performance, and worse health; heart attacks are, for example, higher during that time compared with other weeks , and there may be more traffic accidents.” These are very serious endangerments and they should be taken more seriously because of the possibility of not only acute symptoms but also chronic. Daylight savings throws off the body’s natural clock and the quick change transition is biologically damaging. The government should seriously look at the effects of daylight savings time because it directly affects the welfare of citizens. Abolishing daylight saving would boost the overall wellness of people and in turn create a happier and healthier society. The simple notion of receiving more expose to natural light from the sun can make life more enjoyable. Abandoning daylight savings time and living in Standard Time year round would fix the problems created by switching between time measurements.
