Terry Totten Steps Down as Head Football Coach

Terry Totten, the head coach of Central Catholic High School’s football team for twenty-one years, announced his retirement on Thursday, December 1st.

He graduated from Central Catholic in 1976 after spending four years as a Viking.

In 2002, he returned to the institution as defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach in 2005.

Totten coached Central Catholic to two PIAA State Championships as head coach in 2007 and 2015.

He also won six WPIAL championships, including Class 4A victories in 2007, 2013, and 2015, as well as three Class 6A crowns in 2016, 2019, and 2020.

Totten also coached four current NFL players: Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, Cal Adomitis of the Cincinnati Bengals, Rodney Thomas of the Indianapolis Colts, and Kurt Hinish of the Houston Texans.

All four of these athletes contributed to the state championship in 2015, with Hamlin graduating in 2016 and Adomitis, Thomas, and Hinish graduating in 2017.

He also coached Stefan Wisniewski, a former offensive lineman who played in the NFL for ten years.

Coach Totten is one of the most decorated and hard-nosed coaches in Central Catholic’s 95-year history.

More importantly, though, he has served as a mentor to every football player who has come through his program.
