End of the Season: Volleyball Wrap-Up

The last couple of years for the Central Catholic Volleyball team have been rough, but it seems that the team is coming back.  After both Varsity and JV and teams beat Moon High School on April 5, the outlook for the season started looking brighter. Central’s head coach Kris Scigliano ’77 believes that, “the team is looking the best they have in the last couple of years and are continuing to get better.” The team has continued to progress from their April wins.  The Vikings success continued into the Fox Chapel Tournament on April 9. Central’s varsity team advanced to the winners bracket where they sadly lost to Central York (one of the top teams in state). However, this bodes well for the Vikings because most of the teams they played in the tournament are in higher divisions.

With three matches left in the season Central’s Coach Kris Scigliano believed if the Varsity team wins out, they will be able to clinch the playoffs this year. The varsity’s record is 3-6. The last three matches are against Upper Saint Clair, Peters Township and Bethel Park School District. Central’s team is dominated by nine seniors: Aaron Arden, Dan Crawford, Declan Berardi, Alexander Boone, Ty DeJames, Sean Folan, Stephan Pfau, Nate Bindseil and Central’s Captain Mark Kosky.

Recently, the team played their last couple matches as Vikings. Nearly half of the team is consumed by the seniors and losing these players will be a blow to the team next year. The Vikings celebrated their Senior Night this past Friday evening. Central hopes for a large amount of freshman next year to join the team to revamp the lacking number of players.
