Earlier in March, Venezuela clinched their first ever World Baseball Classic title with help from the stellar performance of Venezuelan pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, despite Bryce Harpers late game clutch 2 run homer to tie it in the 8th inning.
The U.S team had just 2 hits prior to the 8th inning despite having a combined 65 all star game appearances between the team.
Star player and American League MVP, Aaron Judge had an extremely disappointing outing, batting 0/4 in the championship.
With other star power like Bobby Witt, Harper, Judge, and Shwarber many Americans were expecting many home runs and extra base hits.
The U.S bats seemed to vanish whenever they were needed most, being held to 3/30 and a .100 average in the game.
Although the U.S team was favorited, the Venezuelans had a solid roster themselves. With a deep roster and pitching staff that featured key players like Ronald Acuna and Salvador Perez.
This loss marks the second time in a row the U.S team has lost in the championship losing to Japan in the past.
Overall, The game came as a major disappointment to all the Americans as the favorited Japan team who were defending champions in 2023, got knocked off by the Venezuelans making the road to gold easier for the Americans. Hopefully, in the future, the U.S can finally bring home a World Baseball Classic Title back to the states.
