Pro: If Football is So Dangerous to Players, Should We Continue to Watch It?

Football should be continued to be watched by the American people. Football is a sport. It should be treated as such. The acts of a football player, though they may seem barbaric, are actually almost always planned and precise. This is not a matter of putting on pads and running into other men. It is playing a game with a set number of rules in place. The objective is not to hurt other humans. The objective is to score more points than the other team. Injuries just happen to be a part of the game. Injuries are a part of every game.

Sports such as boxing and MMA don’t get as much media attention as football, yet the goal is to actually hurt the other person. Furthermore, to stop watching football means to hurt the livelihood of thousands of people around the country. More than that. Millions. When football is no longer watched by millions of people around the country, it will eventually leave the ranks of the sports realm. Kids will no longer be playing football at a young age. This takes away a means in which kids are taught fundamental lessons in discipline and perseverance as well as rightful pride in accomplishment. These kids are now out on there own with nothing to keep them occupied. Many of these kids will occupy themselves with negative activities, as it is a common theme that a bored kid is much more likely to get into trouble than a kid preoccupied in sports.

High school football would also then be taken away. These high school kids would find themselves in the same predicament as the youth. Now however, the high school itself suffers as income from highly profitable football games are taken away. In college, it’s even worse. Kids now lose their way of paying for their college education. Coaches lose their jobs and thus, their way of providing for themselves and their families. The universities suffer greatly. The millions of dollars brought in by football each year are gone. This loss of income would, in turn, negatively effect any program or person that would normally receive those funds. The problems continue when moving to the NFL. There, it is much of the same. All of the players and coaches lose their way of providing for their family.

The city suffers as well, as the mass amounts of funds brought in are no more.  Lastly, football brings together people and entire communities, creating bonds that can never be broken. Without football, these bonds and everlasting friendships would never be made. Hence, people can’t stop watching football because of injuries. The benefits of football far outweigh the negatives in every way.
