Central Catholic is done with the old and ready for the new gymnasium and student center after recently renovating the Brother’s House. This involved the demolition of the old gym which happened in early July with cranes and other construction vehicles.
Central Catholic will be upgrading to a new and improved gymnasium and student center, after finally getting rid of Alumni Hall which has been around since 1978, and it is about time for a renovation.
Over the past 25 years, Central Catholic has spent around $30 million dollars on its campus but has never done any renovations to the gym. This is a big step in the advancement of Central, and a big investment for the future of Central’s student experience not just for athletes but for all students and the community as well.
Although, this will be a lengthy process and will cause issues on campus with parking and also affecting the flow of pick-up and drop-off.
President Stoessel says this was a necessary decision to stay competitive not only in the educational aspect of things, but in the athletic aspect of things too. This project is meant to enhance the student experience here at Central, as well as set us up for our next 100 years.
According to Mr. Stoessel, the planning for this started in 2018, This wasn’t the only goal—the Brother’s House was the priority. Once this construction is finally finished, it will be a big accomplishment for our community and have many benefits. These include being able to hold home playoff basketball games again, according to WPIAL regulations, it will be a place not only for athletics, but for educational and other recreational purposes, and it will even have an underground parking garage, to replace the 65 parking spots we previously had in the area, says Mr. Stoessel.
This building will be 3 stories tall, and the construction currently disables the football field from being used. Since this is a lengthy project and we still have not gathered all of the funds needed to have it finished, during the construction, funding may still be going on says President Stoessel.
Central Catholic will hopefully have a new and improved part of campus with this gym and student center by the 2027-2028 school year. This will be a crucial project for central Catholic to become more modernized and significantly upgrade their campus as well. This will have a big Impact for central and will definitely put them ahead of other schools.
