Does the last name Tshiebwe sound familiar to you? You may know the name from six-foot eleven basketball star Oscar Tshiebwe, who currently plays at the University of Kentucky.

Just this year, Oscar’s younger brother, Debaba, transferred to Central Catholic and currently plays on the football team and already has a Division l basketball offer to Bryant University.

Debaba previously resided at Spire Institute (Geneva, Ohio). When asked why Debaba came to Central Catholic, he stated that he came for a good education and to get into college.

Debaba also mentioned that at Spire he lived in a dorm with his teammates. “Spire also had girls” Debaba explained. “Here at Central there are no girls, and there is just a different vibe at a college prep school.”

When asked how Debaba liked it here at Central, he responded, “I like it here. I have a lot of fun on the football team.” Debaba currently plays defensive end on the team and explained that he enjoys doing so.

“I think it’s good for me, though next year I would like to learn to play offensive positions as well,” he remarked. Although it is only Debaba’s first year playing football, he truly enjoys the game with his teammates.

It may only be his first year of football, but Debaba surely is no stranger to basketball. Debaba played this past season on the elite AAU basketball team Wildcat Select, and already has a Division l basketball offer.

Debaba will be trying out for Central’s basketball team this year, and when asked about his thoughts on the season he responded with positivity. “I think we are going to be good, but outside of that I do not quite know what to think yet.”

Debaba has been attending the open gyms when he can and is keeping his skills fresh for the season ahead. Be sure to head to the football field or Chuck Crummie Court to catch Debaba in action!
