The number 4 ranked Central Catholic varsity baseball team has had a strong season so far, holding an overall record of 9-4, and a conference record of 2-3 in the competitive section 1 of Class 6A. Junior center fielder Brandon Gelpi has played a key role in the team’s success: “The Central Catholic motto has always been about brotherhood and I truly believe that it shines on the baseball field,” Gelpi said.

“Our competitiveness as a team is really something special, and our team chemistry is a huge reason why we’re so competitive.” Along with seniors Jake Rush and Conor Deasy, Gelpi serves as a captain on the team. “To be named a captain by my teammates is an honor. Having the opportunity to learn from upperclassmen these past years was a life changing experience, one that has helped me become the player I am on and off the field,” Gelpi said. “I’m excited to bring the same energy and passion to the game that other captains have displayed on the field.”

From their trip to Myrtle Beach to their numerous practices after school, this year’s team has developed a strong bond not only on the field, but off the field as well. As the season progresses, the team will not stop working to have the most success. “It’s the littlest things that have prepared us as a team to compete as brothers,” Gelpi said, “From working hard in the offseason, to learning how to improve our game everyday, I’m excited to see what is in store for us.”
