“The Fleet” has students from Oakland and Central Catholic students on Friday nights at Central Football and basketball games. These students cheer on their friends.
The student section has strong tradition that dates back to the 1990s. Central Catholic having a student section that is loud and involved in the game is a staple to the aura of the football program.
Leadership is important to keep the legacy of the student section alive. “The Fleet” has leaders who pave the way for the students and lead them in cheers and chants.
One leader, Santino DiSilvio, explains why the leaders are so important. DiSilvio says, “It shows our dedication to our school spirit”.
“The Fleet” also serves another purpose: it brings together the community of students and has a welcoming atmosphere. All are welcome in the student section.
DiSilvio talks about the leadership, “It brings a wide variety of people together who all want to cheer on their friends”.
“The Fleet” also brings a sense of community to the Central and Oakland Catholic students.
When there is no student section, the players feel a difference in their play.
When asked about his play when the student section is loud, Enzo Khalil, a Varsity Basketball player said, “when I look over and see my brothers hype, It gives me a jolt that is electric”.
Central Catholics student section serves a variety of purposes that affect students and players. “The Fleet” welcomes everyone and needs as much fire power as possible.
Students should be ready to set sail with “The Fleet” for the remaining football and basketball games this season.
