As a freshman coming to Central Catholic it can be a daunting task to manage the workload and standards that come with attending a college-preparatory high school. There are resources available to everyone to help them get through the challenges they will face in school. The teachers and staff will do all they can to make sure every student has a chance to live up to their potential. Central Catholic is a place of opportunity and as long as you work toward progress as a man of faith, scholarship, and service you will reach new heights.

          Central’s electronics program allows students to organize themselves in simple and exciting ways. The MyHomework app, available to all Central students, is one of the best ways to keep track of assignments. You can organize homework and tests by priority, class, and type. You can also keep track of your classes on it by entering your 6 day schedule and color coding everything. One of the biggest challenges that students face is being punctual with their assignments and keeping track of them. The iPad program allows you to keep track of digital assignments using Google Drive or Office 365. Both programs allow for cloud storage and editing of documents, spreadsheets, and slideshows. Google Drive allows for the storage of any file including PDFs but is not easily compatible with PowerPoint files. Office 365 lacks in this area but runs smoother when operating Word Docs, Powerpoints, and Excel files. Using a combination of both of these system is the key to maintaining control over assignments and holding onto them for future reference.

If you are struggling in a subject, there are several places that will help you out. The IU room is a judgement free learning environment where you can get 1 on 1 help with an instructor. To attend a session, just go in and check the schedule posted and sign up to sit in on any period when you do not have a class. Bring homework or test problems so the instructors can go over them with you as examples. BRC1 in the Brother Richard Center for Excellence is Mrs. Lynch’s room. She is there most periods to organize tutoring sessions between students and seniors from the National Honor Society. Talk to your teachers and parents and if they feel like this is something you need then you should take the opportunity to learn and prosper. Never feel afraid to ask for help and always seek to learn more using the resources available to you. The Library is a place to go during free periods where you can get your homework done in peace. The BRC Writing Center is also available for working on homework like essays and papers. Both the Library and Writing Center have computers and printers available to you. Additionally, you can use your centralcatholichs.com Gmail to link with Khan Academy. Using Khan Academy you will be able to bolster your skills in certain classes, track progress and learn ahead, get some last minute tips before a test, and, when the time comes, access free SAT prep.

With the increased effort it takes to excel at Central, it may seem like you have no time for fun or socializing. But, Central Catholic offers over 55 clubs and sports. Finding a club is the fastest way to meet new people with similar interests. There are sports for those who wish to get some exercise, clubs for the appreciation of art and culture, and even gaming clubs. There really is something for everyone. Using organizational tools, keeping up on assignments, and using academic help available to you is the key to having a memorable experience at Central Catholic and assimilating yourself into the brotherhood of Central students that will last a lifetime.
